Here's some more pictures from Saturday afternoon onward, from the cosplay, to the dance late
in the evening. The ones at the cosplay show and the dance were the most fun to take. They were
also the hardest to take. I had to scrap a lot of the ones I took for cosplay when they
were on stage 'cause they were so blurry and I wasn't close enough to the stage to get a
good shot. The ones at the dance were also hard to take 'cause everybody's moving. That,
and there weren't nearly as many people as I expected there to be, plus not all were in costume.
Oh well! Check 'em out anyway!
Here's John Krall dressed as Squall from Final Fantasy VIII. I must
say that this guy did a very good job with his costume. Man, that gunblade kicks
ass! Very nice work!
Here is Alicia again from my earlier,
blurry Sailor Moon picture and here is Jamie dressed as Sakura from Card Captor Sakura.
There seemed to be just as many CCS characters as there were Sailor Senshi. The con was just
totally overrun by magical girls this year! Jamie tells me that Alicia was also dressed as Lum from
Urusei Yatsura. I did remember seeing her dressed like that on Friday while waiting in line for
our con badges. Dang, I wish I had my camera ready then.
Here's [insert name here] dressed as (I think) Mai Shiranui from the King of Fighters game series.
She was working the dealer table that my sister and I happened to buy a lot of stuff at. What can I say?
They had lots of cool toys!
Here's Shaun McCarty dressed as James/Kojiro from Team Rocket. He was also working the dealer room. We
talked a bit about Pokémon and seemed pretty knowledgeable. It's sorta rare to find other adults
who care much about Pokémon so it's pretty cool to run into them once in a while. Lots of the
dealers were dressed in costumes which was pretty cool.
Here's Jimmy dressed as Tenchi from Tenchi Muyo! in his Juraian Ultra Battlesuit. It's really
well done! He looked pretty good in it too. Very nice, very fitting. Mel made this one too.

Day Two - The Cosplay Contest
|
Cosplay was great this year. Lots of great and funny sketches and amazing costume work. Wish I had
gotten better seats. I need a camera with a zoom lens. Fortunately, after the on-stage stuff, there
were opportunities to take pictures of the participants.
Here's my sister, Nethel. We were waiting in the audience for the cosplay to start so I snapped this
pic.
I honestly can't remember what this sketch was about. It was one of the few pics that actually came
out okay.
This particular costume wowed a lot of us. It's a little blurry, but as you can probably tell, there's
a big-ass mecha costume on stage. That costume was totally impressive! There was a couple people
behind the girl (yes, there was a girl in there somewhere) that had to help carry the mecha's wings out.
It was also really hard for the girl to walk out there with the suit being so bulky and all. But it was
worth it though for the great sketch.
Here's a clearer picture and also another mecha. This costume was equally cool, and also easier to walk
around in. The premise of this sketch was basically two mechas from Gundam Wing playing
"Paper-Rock-Scissors". The red mecha won. You had to be there. They won some cool prizes and
an award for their sketch. Amazingly, this was their first time in a cosplay contest!
It's blurry, but here's a shot of all the winners for the cosplay contest.
Here's Sara-Jane dressed once again as Dende and Chris Vance dressed up as Piccollo, both from
Dragonball Z. They were part of this really great sketch where these other anime characters were
trying to get Piccollo hooked up with a girl, but Piccollo instead skips happily away with Dende. Chris
dressed up as Piccollo last year too and just totally made a lasting impression on everyone for his
great costume and just generally being a cool con volunteer. Their sketch won an award and prizes.
Here's a clear up-close shot of that red mecha again. Isn't that costume just amazing?
Very well done!
Here's Mike Phillips with his niece, Sarah Phillips, dressed as Kero and Sakura from Card
Captor Sakura. They had a really great cosplay sketch where Kero somehow is made huge by
the "Big" card. Sakura contains the card and all of a sudden, big Kero disappears and the
little Kero the girl is holding is thrown across the stage. It was hilarious! These two won
an award and prizes. Pretty impressive for their first cosplay!
Here's some more post-cosplay pictures I took. The two on the left are characters from
Those Who Hunt Elves. Can't remember the characters' names though.
The two on the right are Josi and Terri as Sailors Neptune and Uranus from Pretty Soldier
Sailor Moon. They were also in a really great Sailor Moon cosplay sketch called
"Knights in White Satin" where they basically reinacted their version of the final battle in
the Sailor Moon S movie. Basically they defeated the Ice Queen by throwing a stuffed
Sailor Chibi Moon at her. Hilarious! I liked how they were able to change from the regular
Sailor Senshi costumes into gleaming white satin Sailor Senshi costumes, just like in the anime.
Very well done, and they got awards and prizes to prove it.
Here's [insert name here] dressed as someone. I don't know who yet, but I'm sure I'll get
that information someday and post it here.

Day Two - Waiting for the AMVs
|
After the Cosplay contest, I hopped over to the Anime Music Video contest replay, for those who missed the
first run during the cosplay contest. Kinda sucks that they had both cosplay and the AMVs running
simultaneously, but at least they ran it again so it's cool. Unfortunately, 'cause cosplay ran late, not
only was it already underway, there was a huge line of people who'd just left the cosplay contest all
squished in the hallway trying to get into the packed room. The deal was, once someone left the AMV room,
another outside was let in. While I waited in the narrow hallway, I chatted with other people waiting
in line and snapped a few pics.
Here is "Zipo" dressed as Nash from the game Lunar Silver Star Story,
but I'll always have him stuck in my head as "Sir Flux Capacitor". Sorry man, that's a Flux
Capacitor if I've ever seen one! I wonder what would happen if he were struck by lightning?
Here's [insert name here] dressed as Melfina from Outlaw Star. Very nice costume! She doesn't
seem to be wearing a shirt and tie though. That would have made the costume perfect.
Here's Melissa Quinn dressed in normal clothes actually, or at least that's what she told me. She said
she wasn't dressed in costume and was wondering why I was taking her picture. Anyway, as I've mentioned
several times, she designed and made many of the costumes you see here in these photos. She's really
really good at it and has a small business,
Faerie Fingers, solely dedicated to making these costumes. As you can see at her site and
in these photos, she's a success. She's seen at many cons dressed as Belldandy from Oh My Goddess!,
hence her nickname, "Meldandy". She also ran the cosplay panel and gave some tips on making costumes.
Here's Issac Alexander, the con chair this year. He also created and used to run the popular anime news
site, Anime News Network. Here, he
is dressed as Captain Justy Ueki Tylor from Irresponsible Captain Tylor.
Here's that Red Zaku again! While I was waiting an ungodly long time to get into the AMV replay, lots
of cosplayers were wandering through the halls since it was just after cosplay. I managed to get
this nice shot of the Red Zaku. A new cosplay fan favorite!
