Day One - Waiting for Opening Ceremonies
|
The first day was kinda hectic. I had to head straight for the Art Show and set up my display. Then I
had to rush over to Opening Ceremonies 'cause I didn't want to miss out on that. I didn't actually get
to check in to the hotel until the afternoon 'cause the hotel didn't have our room ready yet. Grrr...
Nonetheless, I got some nice pics out of that day. Lots of these pics for Friday were taken while standing
in line for Opening Ceremonies and while mulling around in the lobby.
Here's Amanda Mills playing Hand Maid May from the anime of the same name. I haven't seen it yet but
now my interest is piqued. She had that great Sailor Moon Eternal costume at last year's con.
I saw this guy last year. Here he is again playing Ryouga from Ranma½. Definitely a great
costume, with a cool P-Chan doll on his belt. I'm told his name is Kenny.
Here's [insert name here] and [insert name here] playing [insert character name] and [insert character
name] from You're Under Arrest. They were a cool (I'm guessing) mother/daughter team. It's neat
to see that even parents can get into anime.
Here is the first of many many many Yunas from the game Final Fantasy X that appeared at the con.
I'm told this Yuna is played by Vikki Balesteros. I can't remember whether or not I took her pic again
at the fashion show. They all seemed to blur together after a while.
Here's [insert name here] playing Chocolate Misu from Sorcerer Hunters and her friend, [insert
name here] playing Misato from Neon Genesis Evangelion.
This has got to be the best Captain Tylor costume I've ever seen. Here, Tylor (from Irresponsible
Captain Tylor) is played by [insert name here].
Hey, it's Rin! I met her last year. She's a really great artist. I have no idea whether she's in
costume or not. But regardless, she's lookin' great. I kinda wish I had gotten a chance to hang out
more with her and the other artists.
If you're wondering why the pic looks washed out, it's 'cause the original was really really dark. I
had to play with the contrast to get it to show up. This also applies to other washed out pics. Sorry,
it's the best I could do. I just didn't feel like blinding people with the flash.
There's a great story behind these two pics of Chris Vance. It was just before Opening Ceremonies. We
were waiting for the presentation to start and the audience was bored. While I was waiting, I heard
this sudden roar of laughter. I looked around and everybody was getting their cameras and shooting
something. Then I got my camera out and searched around. And there he was! Chris, once again as
Akuma from Street Fighter, with angel's wings!
I knew I couldn't miss out on an opportunity like this. So I rushed up there and got these two shots of
Chris that you see here. Isn't he just adorable? Chris is such a cool cat. I have a bunch more pics
of him later on. Definitely a popular guy at the con.
After Opening Ceremonies, I was left to my devices as to what to do at the con. So, I basically wandered
around, going to panels and other stuff, snapping pictures along the way.
Here's [insert name here] in one of the best Sailor Mars (from Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon)
costumes I've ever seen. Definitely well done with obvious attention to detail, right down to the
high-heels. Thumbs up!
Oh, man... Never was I ever so surprised when I noticed that Theo was dressed in drag. I almost didn't
recognize him. My sister and I agree. Theo makes a great girl. (Sorry, Theo. :p ) I have no idea who
he's playing, but he's pictured here with his friend, [insert name here] dressed as [insert character
name] from [insert anime name].
Here's [insert name here] playing Aerith from Final Fantasy VII. Good costume.
If you saw last year's cosplay, you'll remember this mecha costume. The costume design team member
that I spoke with said that this is actually a different Deathscythe (from Gundam Wing) model
from the one they did from last year's cosplay. Nonetheless, really damned cool! Here it's displayed,
sans wings. They had to throw those out.
Ah, one of the very few Team Rocket (from Pokémon) cosplayers I encountered. There seemed
to be way more last year. Ah well... Here, [insert name here] strikes a pose.
Here's that badass Red Zaku (from Mobile Suit Gundam) from last year. He's from the same design
team as the Deathscythe one. This year, I get a much better shot for the album.
Here's Carmen who I met her last year. She was with this really great group of cosplayers, of which I
have more pics of later. Here, she's dressed as [insert character name] from [insert anime name].
Here's [insert name here] dressed as Miaka from Fushigi Yuugi. There were actually quite a few
Miakas around. Seems to be a reoccuring theme. That, and I guess brown schoolgirl outfits are easy to
put together.
Hell yeah! It's Link from the Legend of Zelda games! There were actually more than one Link
this year! You hardly see anyone cosplay as Link so I was pretty happy to see this one. Here, Link is
played by [insert name here].
Here is yet another Yuna, played by [insert name here]. Here she's pictured with [insert name here] as
Pochi from Animal Magnetism, and [insert name here] as Masuki Asahina from Haunted Junction.
I haven't seen either of those animes, or played FFX. I really need to catch up.
Here is one of the few Asukas (from Neon Genesis Evangelion) that I saw running around. I'm
actually really impressed with the Asukas 'cause they look very much like Asuka that it's almost
scary. Here, Asuka is portrayed by [insert name here].
Here's [insert name here] playing another Miaka, and [insert name here] playing [insert character name]
from [insert anime name]. Miaka had this cool foam burger that she posed with at the fashion show. I
kinda wish it was in this pic.
Hahaha! Here's [insert name here] as Android 18 and [insert name here] as Mr. Satan from DragonBall
Z. Everybody loves Mr. Satan, (or "Hercule" as he's known in the English dub).
