Day 0 - Pre-Registration Fun

Thursday came around and I came to pick up my badge with a friend. I had decided in my "brilliance" to enter the art show last minute. Unfortunately, the scheduled setup time was cancelled so I was forced to wait 'til tomorrow to get my exhibit put up. But on the bright side, I was able to get more pieces laminiated to fill my display in the mean time.

Lines were long for the pre-reg line. I got there kinda late. But at least I got my badge.

001 There was enough of a line at pre-reg that it stretched outside. It was also pretty cold. At least it wasn't raining.

003 Finally! Inside! All I can say is, thank goodness for GameBoys for passing the time.

004 More crowd control. I wanted to get a shot of the security guy 'cause he had a really snappy suit. Guess you'll have to enjoy his back.

005 And finally, I reach the desk! I grabbed my badge and headed home.

Day 1 - Art Show Setup

Friday morning was a pain. I had to get up super early to get my Art Show exhibit set up 'cause we couldn't do it the night before. Yet, again, the Art Show coordinator didn't show up like last night and setup was delayed for an hour. Finally, I was able to get setup, and I got a really sweet spot right near the door. My display was the first thing you saw when you walked in. Totally made up for the setup hassle.

006 This guy calls himself the "Coffee Boss". Yup, he's the boss of coffee all right.

007 Hey, look! It's Kyle Pope of Anime News Network! He's lovingly referred to as "the edit list guy".

008 Here's my Art Show wall. I had to get my prints re-laminated the night before 'cause seams on the edges had opened. Cold lamination sucks. Hot lamination is where it's at. Eventually, I'll get these all framed.

009 Here's my table. I laid out all my sketchbooks and binders so neatly.

010 This is the whole display. Ready for everyone to thumb through and look at.

Day 1 - Waiting For Opening Ceremonies

Since Art Show setup was late, I was worried that I wouldn't make it in time for Opening Ceremonies. Fortunately, I was quick enough to get done with an hour to spare. Unfortunately, the line for Opening Ceremony had decided to form itself a half hour before the line was scheduled to start forming. So basically, I was waiting in line to start a line for Opening Ceremonies. This would be the beginning of a pattern of lines forming at least an hour or so before they were supposed to start seating. I find it ironic that people hate waiting in lines, yet they instinctively start them anyway.

But oddly enough, lines were actually pleasant this year. No hassles. Security was on the ball compared to last years' line hassles. As long as you showed up early, you were okay. Unfortunately for me, I kept getting seated at the far edge of events rather than the ideal spots towards the center where I could get a better view for pictures. At least I got some good pics waiting in line.

011 First shot of the action coming from the elevator. Crowded already!

012 Awesome! Here's [name] dressed as a blue Link from The Legend of Zelda - Ocarina of Time! Nice to see the alternate tunic variation. The Blue Tunic let you breath underwater in the game.

014 This is Andrea, a fellow Pokémon fan. Nice Pokédolls! I challenge her husband, Danny, every year to a GameBoy Pokémon battle.

017 Here's the Friday morning line. Glad I picked up my pass last night. Otherwise, I'd be standing there too.

018 Hey, it's Michael Johnson! I knew him way back when we were in the Anime Discovery Project at the University of Washington. But the rest of the world knows him as one of the founders of Nausicaa.net, the premier online resource for everything related to Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki. You can thank him for helping in getting Studio Ghibli movies brought stateside. But today at the con, I think he said he was in charge of a panel on the Japanese chess game, Go.

019 Yup, Friday was crowded. Hey, it's a tiny Sailor Moon!

023 Heh. I love improvised costumes. I saw this dude while I was in line for Opening Ceremonies. I just had to snap this.
