Right after Opening Ceremonies, I followed Ippongi Bang to her panel down the hall. It wasn't really well advertised which is a shame because her panel was quite fun and insightful. For those who don't know, Ippongi Bang is a famous manga artist in Japan who has also built other careers as an actress, singer, and voice actress. But her big claim to fame is her manga, which sadly hasn't really been seen much stateside. I certainly would have liked to see some of her work. Maybe someday. As you can see, she's also an excellent cosplayer. She's got just about the best Lum costume ever! She's been known to cosplay and draw at lots of anime conventions. It was a real pleasure to meet such a personality. I gave her my business card with my web address. Hopefully she's reading this right now.
After Ippongi Bang's panel, I just kinda wandered around a bit. I met up with my sister at the Dealer Room. For once, I went on a Friday. Too bad I didn't have enough money with me this year. I pretty much spent most of it on these really cool Super Mario plushies. Kinda sucked 'cause I wasn't able to buy a t-shirt this year. I hope they have 2005 extras next year. Later, I got my room checked in (finally) and snapped a few pics along the way.
Thankfully, I was able to get in line earlier for the AMVs. There wasn't much going on beforehand that I was really interested in so I just waited in line, again well in advance of the actual scheduled line making. I still got crappy seats, but then, this isn't a live event so much of the action was on the video screens anyway. Lots of good entries this year. But like always, the funny ones are the videos that get my attention. One of the top winners this year was this great Lord of the Rings trailer pieced together with clips from the TransFormers movie. Awesome stuff!
I was originally gonna try to be part of the shoot but unfortunately, my key prop - my full-size Pikachu plush, was in the hands of my sister and she just didn't feel like bringing it to me so I was kinda screwed out of this photo op. I also didn't have my Team Rocket sweater on me so not only didn't I have a prop, I didn't have my costume either. I was hot - so sue me. At least I managed to hold on to my undefeated streak with this guy, Danny, who I've run into every year for the past three years at the con. We eventually run into each other every year and have a friendly GameBoy Pokémon battle. It's so hard to find any competition around here. |
