Day 0 - Thursday Night Pre-Registration
|
The convention officially begins for me at this point. I checked in earlier and set up a smaller display
in the Art Show. It's scaled down from last year, mostly because I hated having to carry my big-ass
box of art stuff. I limited it to anything I could stuff into one shoulder bag. Also, a new thing
this year, I had a guestbook available for people to sign and write notes in.
After all that, I picked up my badge and snapped some pics.
Ah, my room. This year, I stayed at the Seattle Sheraton Hotel since it was one of the offical convention
hotels. Services were excellent so I'm glad that I picked this one. For once, I decided to
take advantage of those services like valet parking and actually using people to help me. Totally
worth it. Usually I'm a cheap-ass and do everything myself from moving my luggage to parking off-site.
I'm definitely staying here again next year if Sakura Con reserves room blocks again.
Pirates! Kinda funny that my first cosplayer pic would be non-anime. Well, I suppose Jack Sparrow
is okay since he's in Kingdom Hearts 2 and it's a Square-Enix game, and game cosplaying is cool too.
Good costumes, regardless.
Old school cosplay! It's Girl-type Ranma and P-chan from Ranma½.
Sakura is glomping Sasuke! Both are from Naruto.

Day 1 - Waiting for Opening Ceremonies
|
Not much was happening until Opening Ceremonies. It was scheduled later in the day this year,
probably for the better since there were long registration lines. However, I still had to wait quite
a while before it started, so I snapped some photos.
Here we have Zero from the MegaMan X games, at least I think it's Zero. There's so many different games now, I
can't keep track of them all.
No idea who this is. Nice gun though.
It's two wild and crazy guys! It's official, Super Mario Bros. are back in vogue. These are one pair
of many Mario Bros. cosplayers that were running around this weekend.
What can I say? It's a big box of Pocky. Too bad it's not strawberry. I like strawberry better.
Here we have the Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children versions of Tifa and Yuffie and according to
"PacificPyro" of the Sakura Con Message Boards (the guy playing Zack), he's the "Last Order" version,
because it was easier to do. Pretty cool to see Zack in action. You usually see more Cloud.
Rikku from (I think) Final Fantasy X.
This is the most perfect Ed from Cowboy BeBop that I've ever seen. Right age, build, just
totally captures Ed.
It's Zero again, and he's made a friend. It's Link fresh from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight
Princess.
From the Sailor Moon series, it's Sailors Neptune and Uranus. Uranus is being naughty. Again.
It's the game master himself, Captain N! Unfortunately, this cosplayer didn't have his Zapper.
He says it was still in the mail.
This me with one of my friends, Dylan, dressed as Master Roshi from the Dragon Ball series. Believe
me, he has more than just looks in common with Master Roshi...
No idea who this is, but I don't want to meet him in a dark alley...
It's a full party from Final Fantasy I - Fighter, Black Mage, White Mage, and Red Mage.
From Sailor Moon, it's the Sailor Scouts! Sailors Mars, Venus, Moon, and Jupiter, and a teeny
little Tuxedo Mask in front. What? No Sailor Mercury? Oh well, she's my least favorite anyway...
If I remember my deadly sins correctly, this is Lust from Fullmetal Alchemist.
Sheik from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Sheik is looking quite chic! (I love bad puns.)
Kakashi-sensei from Naruto, reading a book as usual.
Striking a pose is Rock Lee from Naruto.

Day 1 - Opening Ceremonies
|
After a nice three-hour wait in line, Opening Ceremonies started and rang in this years convention.
Viz's, Toshifumi Yoshida, was the MC this year. We had the usual improvised opening remarks from this year's chair,
John Krall. Lots of other cool stuff happened.
Pretty crowded inside the main ballroom.
Here's one of the guests, Vic Mignogna. He's the voice of Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist.
He is adored by the fangirls.
Speaking of fangirls, here they are, swarming around and glomping our hapless voice actor.
This year, the convention was blessed by a real Shinto priest. Lots of bowing.
Here's a pic of Toshifumi Yoshida. Now you know what he looks like.
There was a kendo demonstration done by a local kendo group. Pretty intense stuff.
Towards the end, Dan Harrison, vice con chair and one of the founders of the convention, held a little
celebration for this year's tenth anniversary. A handful of the staffers who've been there from the con's beginning were
brought to the stage, and the youngest and oldest staffers were invited to have a slice of cake. The
tenth year of Sakura Con has officially begun!
