Day 1 - Late Afternoon ~ Late Night
|
I came back from the hotel so I could get in line for the Anime Music Video contest. Naturally, I
shot lots of photos making my way up back to the sixth floor of the convention center where pretty
much all the main action was taking place. Unfortunately, I ended up missing some panels I wanted to
go to like the Akitarou Daichi Q & A. Hopefully he comes back again next year.
This is the first thing I saw when I got back to the convention center. I have no idea who this is.
Here's a really good Chun-Li from the Street Fighter games.
Watch out! Here come the Turks! They're from Final Fantasy VII, but I'm guessing they
were more for the Advent Children version.
Here's the Anime Music Video contest. I usually try to get a seat behind the control area. This is the
best place to watch the videos and listen to the music, hence why they station the control area here.
Strangely enough, I found some guys with a big Chinese dragon at the AMVs. Cool.
After the AMVs, I saw a couple Team Magma grunts from Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald just
kinda sitting around in the hallway.
There's really not much to say here. It's classic Tifa from Final Fantasy VII. I ran
into her later in the weekend and very politely asked her if they were real. She said yes.
Ryu and Chun-Li greet each other with knuckles.
It's the Save Point Moogle! I ran into her outside the Anime Dating Game panel. I wanted to see this
but the room was way too packed. Also, I was also actually gonna go to an adult drawing panel with Doug Smith
next door, which hadn't started yet.
While I was waiting around, I found another Seras Victoria from Hellsing. Neat.
It's a dude with huge black wings. No idea who he is though.
Here's a Team Rocket grunt from the original Pokémon games. There were quite a few of
them this weekend, and they were all pretty good costumes.
Here's me with Doug Smith at his adult drawing panel. In addition to being a graphic artist, he also
does voice acting, most notably Kintaro from GoldenBoy. Learned some pretty good tips. He designed
the chibi version of this year's con mascot, which is on the shirts and the special 10th anniversary
con logo. Actually, he designed the regular Sakura Con logo too.

Day 2 - Late Saturday Morning
|
I had stayed up pretty late the night before. Unfortunately, I was unable to photograph this (not a
choice; they wouldn't allow photography or videotaping for this due to content), but there was a
"Late Night Anime Show" panel wherein pretty much all of the English voice actors and directors got
up on stage and got rip-roaring drunk and had an informal BS session with the 18-and-up congoers.
Best panel ever.
I managed to get up at a decent enough hour and went to a panel on getting into the voice acting industry
headed by Jonathan Klein of New Generation Pictures, who had dubbed such anime as Haibane Renmei
and Texhnolyze. After the panel, I decided to hit the Exhibitor's Hall again.
First photo of the day. It's a Gundam, apparently a "Gundam Heavy Arms". Sure looks like a
heavy arm.
Here's Miroku and Sango from Inuyasha. Inuyasha has kinda gone out of vogue dramatically
now that the anime is over. I saw a few Kagomes, but other than that, Inuyasha himself was pretty much
non-existent.
Here's Ichigo from Bleach. I wonder if his arms go numb from all the tight wrappings.
Here's a group of Metal Gear Solid cosplayers, including that Naked Snake, "IscariotXIII", I
ran into yesterday.
