Day 2 - Saturday Afternoon Stuff

After the Exhibitor's Hall, I still had time until Hideyuki Kurata's panel. After that, I would have a little more time to kill until I had to line up for Cosplay. So, lots of line waiting and snapping photos until then.

I ran into a fellow Pokémon cohort, "Blackjack Gabbiani" from the Sakura Con Message Boards. While we traded Pokémon, I snapped this female trio of Naruto cosplayers. They really did a good job of capturing Naruto, Sasuke, and Kakashi-sensei, while at the same time, adding a yaoi flavor to it.

This girl is the most perfect Kiki from Hayao Miyazaki's Kiki's Delivery Service. Right age, perfect costume, and even a little Jiji doll. Utterly adorable.

This is Paul, a friend of Theo and Tarra's, who's dressed as a character from Bleach. I think I ran into him at the ADP once. He wanted to take a break.

Another Pikachu girl. She even has a Pikachu doll.

Here's another Haruko from FLCL with a friend. Not sure who she's cosplaying as.

This is a really awesome pair of Ranma½ cosplayers! It's Ukyo and girl-type Ranma. Really dig the okonomiyaki spatula. Girl-type Ranma's costume is really well done too.

Here's the Dirty Pair again, and with our FFVII Zack from earlier. Zack gets the ladies.

Here's a big-ass gun. Oh, and Jigen from the Lupin III series.

Day 2 - Saturday Afternoon Panel Hopping

I decided I was really hungry and I also needed to hit the ATM as well. I really didn't eat much all weekend. I made sure to take at the very least one meal break a day, and that's what I ended up doing. I'm kind of a cheap-ass, so I made the long, two-and-a-half block trek to the nearby McDonald's near Westlake Mall and that was pretty much my only source of food all weekend - one Double-Quarter Pounder meal a day for three days.

Anyway, after lunch and quick trip to the hotel room to drop off my purchases, I headed back to the convention center for more fun.

It's another Team Rocket grunt! My fellow grunts are in full force this weekend.

Really cool dress! No idea who she is though. I saw her lounging on the stairs on my way back up.

Here's an excellent pair of cosplayers dressed as Faye and Spike from one of my favorite anime, Cowboy BeBop. The Faye is especially nice. I think they were here last year too.

Here's kind of an odd scene. Just before Hideyuki Kurata's panel, the room was pretty much empty except for a random group of people just hanging around. The panel that was supposed to be there had cancelled, and these folks had taken it upon themselves to start a "jan-ken-po" (more popularly known as "rock-paper-scissors" or "roschambo"), panel. Then, in walks Mr. Kurata and his translator to set up for their panel. The rock-paper-scissors girl (the self-proclaimed champ) in the pic challenged me. I won a few times, but she claimed they didn't count. Then I suggested they try to challenge Mr. Kurata. I think she beat him.

Here's Hideyuki Kurata's panel. Mr. Kurata is the creator of one of my all-time favorite series, Read or Die. Last year he was a guest here for Gun X Sword as he is the script writer for that series. This year, he's here for Hellsing Ultimate since he's also the script writer for that series as well. This time, however, he got his own Q & A panel. Here he is with his translator.

This time, I got a photo with him. There was supposed to be a scheduled autograph session right after, but it seems that he'd already done it yesterday (damn rescheduling...). Regardless, he was nice enough to sign my R.O.D, Vol. 1 manga and let me get a photo with him.

Someone came by in a Gir costume (Gir being from the Nickelodeon show, Invader Zim). It's not anime, but the same crowd enjoys it. Pretty cool job on the costume.

This is me with Sumi Shimamoto at her autograph panel. She's a Japanese voice actress who's been in many big roles. She's played Nausicaa, Clarise in Castle of Cagliostro, and Kyoko from Maison Ikkoku. I'm still kicking myself for forgetting to pack my DVD of Nausicaa. All I had on me for her to sign was my con book. Man, I hope she comes back. I missed out on her Q & A panel too. I'm a sad panda.

At this point, I definitely had to go line up for Cosplay. I caught this girl being snapped by photographers so I joined in. No idea who she was playing. She was a dear for waiting so I could snap her; I could tell her legs were about to give out.

One cool thing about the con getting big is that it's also attracting the professional Japanese cosplayers. They always go all out when it comes to detail. Sadly, I have no idea who they're cosplaying as. Looks really cool though.

Did all these Pikachu girls come together?

Here is Michiru, a Japanese cosplayer. This is her website (if you can understand Japanese). Here, she is dressed as Sir Integra from Hellsing. Really excellent costume. She was also a judge for Cosplay.

While waiting in line for Cosplay, the Naruto ramen cart passed by. Here's Naruto again with the creepy bug kid, the fat guy with the fishcake swirls on his cheeks, and Sasuke.
