Day 2 - Late Saturday Night
|
After Cosplay was over, a screening of Hellsing Ultimate started. They showed the first episode
which is already available now. After this, they premiered the second episode which isn't out yet
(as of this writing) on DVD for a month or so. Then they premiered the third episode that just
came out in Japan only a few days ago.
After the Hellsing Ultimate screening... surprisingly, not much happened. 'Course, by then,
it was after midnight.
Here we have one of the Japanese producers of Hellsing Ultimate (whose name escapes me), Jonathan Klein of New
Generation Pictures, the studio which did the dubbing, Talliesin Jaffe who helped direct the dub,
and Katie Gray, the voice of Seras Victoria. Before they showed the second episode, they got
on stage and talked to the audience about the anime.
Believe me, this was an awesome screening. Imagine hundreds of Hellsing fans crammed into a giant
ballroom with three gigantic screens, watching Hellsing like in a huge super movie theater,
getting into it with the rest of the audience members and cheering during all the awesome action scenes,
much of which is being viewed for the first time. Just can't get this watching it at home alone.
Here's a cosplayer, "Vagrant Logic" from the Sakura Con Message Boards, dressed as Walter from
Hellsing. Many of the people in the audience were cosplaying as Hellsing characters,
which added to the awesome atmosphere.
After Hellsing, I ran into another Milk-chan. She wasn't the same one at Cosplay, but she
played a really good Milk-chan.
Much later, I wandered into open-mic karaoke, which was being run by my friend, Hector, and his
friend, Carlos. To my surprise, R.O.D creator Hideyuki Kurata walked in with some of his "entourage". It was
really late and less than a dozen people were in the room. Unfortunately, Mr, Kurata decided to call
it a night before getting on stage.
However, a couple of Mr. Kurata's buddies stuck around. Here, one of them is singing the opening
theme song to Urusei Yatsura, and he wasn't half bad either.

Day 3 - Late Easter Sunday Morning
|
I stayed up 'til around five this morning and payed for it. I overslept and didn't get up 'til ten.
Missed out on some panels I wanted to see. I had to get all my crap together and check out of my
hotel room. Took me about an hour. After that, I was ready to finish out the day... and the con.
Of all the Eureka's I saw this weekend, I think this one was the best one. Plus, she was the prettier
version of Eureka from towards the end of Eureka Seven, with the longer hair. No idea who the
one on the left is.
In hindsight, I think they probably weren't really cosplaying. I just assumed because they were wearing
cat and bunny ears, they might be characters.
This is one of the most unique, and ultimately kinda creepy, cosplay I saw. This is a "mid-transformation"
Sailor Moon. This is that whole sequence where Sailor Moon's body is basically both nude and transparent
all the while ribbons erupting from her magical brooch are wrapping around her to form her costume.
Very original concept for cosplay. Still kinda creepy though.
It's that weird pink coral thing that I ran into on Friday. And she's brought friends.
While waiting for a panel, I found a really excellent Alphonse Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist.
Here's that dude from Trigun. Personally, although the creator of Trigun, Yasuhiro Nightow, was
a guest, I didn't really feel the Trigun vibe all weekend. This was mostly due to the fact that
I missed out on any Trigun-related panels. Just not enough time in the day for me to attend
all the panels I want to see.
Here are a couple staffers cosplaying as characters from Bleach
Here's Jonathan Klein and Talliesin Jaffe heading up the Voice Directing panel where they talked about
directing dubs. These guys are a lot of the reason why I love dubbed anime so much nowadays. They're
real pros. For those who don't know, they've worked on R.O.D, Tehxnolyze, Haibane
Renmei, and lots of other anime I enjoy.
Cool costume. No idea who she's cosplaying as though.
It's Doraemon! He's like the Mickey Mouse of Japan. He'll never take off stateside, but it's still
really cool to see Doraemon. He's a magical space cat!
I think they're cosplaying from Revolutionary Girl Utena.
Here's Vash from Trigun. This guy in particular has been cosplaying as Vash for the last few
years and is a total expert at it. He was one of the Cosplay judges last night.
This is a panel on "amigurumi", the art of crocheting cutesy things. My sister couldn't make it to the
con, so she made me stop in really quick and pick up a pattern and reference info.
Another one of my favorite costumes this weekend, it's Canti from FLCL. This costume is really
elaborate, and the attention to detail is so unreal. Major props for this excellent costume.
Final Fantasy XI cosplayers. Nice!
It's the old lady from Howl's Moving Castle!
Here's some Final Fantasy VII characters fighting... I have no idea
what's going on. That's "PacificPyro" again on the ground as a WRO, and that is Nero again from
Friday.
It's Sakura from Card Captor Sakura! One of these days, I'll actually sit
down and watch this anime.
