Day 1 - Opening Ceremonies
|
Opening Ceremonies was pretty short. There was a cool intro video, some announcements, some words from
the musical guests, and a couple cultural performances. I didn't really take many photos since I
was busy watching.
Here's a group of young girls doing some traditional dances.
A closeup of a couple of the girls.
Here's a group of taiko drummers. Nice to seem taiko drummers back. They'd been missing for a few years
from Opening Ceremonies.
Just after Opening Ceremonies, I got a quick photo with the Japanese Consul General, Mitsunori Namba.
During Opening Ceremonies, he wanted to call him the "Culture General". He explained that Hello Kitty
and Doraemon are official worldwide Japanese cultural ambassadors. He seemed impressed when I asked
in Japanese to take his photo. My Japanese is really rusty.
I didn't do too terribly much after Opening Ceremonies. The panels I wanted to check out weren't until
late in the afternoon, and there was still time until the Dealer Room would open up so I wandered
around and took tons of cosplay photos.
Not really sure who she's dressed as. Nice costume though.
The girl on the left is (I think) cosplaying as someone from Haruhi. I want to say the girl
on the right is dressed as Ulala from Space Channel 9.
It's a pair of Yuffies. The one on the left is from Final Fantasy: VII Advent Children and the one on
the right is the original Final Fantasy VII version.
It's the Domu-kun and girl from earlier, but now they're with a Final Fantasy black mage.
Here's a really good Naruto. No offense to other Naruto cosplayers, but to me, it seems like
girls are better at cosplaying Naruto. 'Cause this is a really good Naruto.
Here's some more Katamari Damacy cosplayers. Interestingly enough, there were at least a couple
other trios wearing the same costumes.
Here's another couple Ace Attorney cosplayers. It's Godot and Mia. Kinda weird 'cause this scene
couldn't exist... unless Godot was talking to Mia's ghost.
No idea at all who this character is.
Here's Amarao from FLCL. Gotta love those eyebrows.
Here's a group of Kingdom Hearts cosplayers. At least I think all of them are from
Kingdom Hearts. The girl on the far left kinda looks like Princess Zelda with a cape.
Here's a reeeally good Rangiku from Bleach. *blush*
This is a really good Mousse from Ranma½. One of the guests this year is Kappei Yamaguchi,
who was the voice of Ranma, as well as many other anime characters. There was quite a few Ranma½
cosplayers this year.
Here's a couple Sasuke cosplayers, both Shippuden and regular Naruto versions.
It's Jill Valentine and an Umbrella soldier. Really good Resident Evil cosplayers.
Here's Kiki from Kiki's Delivery Service.
Kind of a mish-mash of cosplayers I ran into near the escalators. There's Witch Hunter Robin,
Link, Sailor Mercury, and... someone else? Don't know who the one on the right is.
This is a really tall Vegeta from Dragonball Z. Kinda seems out of place to be so tall.
I have no clue who this is. I thought it was a deformed Moogle...
Don't know the name of the character, but she's from Revolutionary Girl Utena.
I think the character's name is Yugo and he's from Battle Angel Alita. He's another character
played by Kappei Yamaguchi. This guy was guarding the entrance to the Dealer Room.
Hey, it's Buddy Jesus! Just another reminder that Sakura Con is on Easter weekend.
Here's Yuna from Final Fantasy VIII.
Here's Ichigo from Bleach with the hollow mask. This cosplayer said that he ordered his mask
online. Pretty cool mask.
Another awesome Ace Attorney cosplayer, this time from Apollo Justice. It's Trucy Wright.
It's the Super Mario... Sisters!
Here's Big Chris once again dressed as Akuma from the Street Fighter games. He's so perfect
as Akuma. I love when he rolls his eyes back for photos.
These two are from Team Dreamcatchers, a local group of actors with a focus on voice acting. The
one on the left is dressed as Speed from Speed Racer. Not sure who the girl on the right is
though.
I want to say that these are Castlevania cosplayers, only because the dude on the left looks
like Dracula. Of course, I could be completely wrong and they're from some anime series I've never
seen. Very detailed an intricate costumes though.
